Terms of Service

Last updated: April 26, 2026

ChessHarp ("the Service") is a personal chess opening trainer operated as a hobby project. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. The Service

ChessHarp imports your publicly available game history from Chess.com and Lichess, lets you define opening lines, and shows where you deviated from those lines. ChessHarp is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Chess.com or Lichess.

2. Accounts

  • You must provide a valid email address and confirm it before using the Service.
  • You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for all activity under your account.
  • One account per person. Do not share accounts.
  • You may close your account at any time from the Account page. Closing your account permanently deletes your data (see Section 6).

3. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service to import games belonging to anyone other than yourself.
  • Attempt to scrape, reverse engineer, or interfere with the Service.
  • Use automated tools to create accounts, generate excessive load, or evade rate limits.
  • Upload content that is unlawful, harassing, or infringes another party's rights.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules, with or without notice.

4. Third-Party Services

The Service relies on the following third parties. Your use of the Service is subject to their respective terms:

  • Chess.com Public Data API — used to fetch your public game history.
  • Lichess API — used to fetch your public game history.
  • Stripe — used to process payments if you choose to support the Service financially.
  • Resend — used to send account confirmation and notification emails.
  • Cloudflare — used for DNS, TLS, and traffic analytics.

5. Payments and Donations

If the Service offers paid features or accepts donations, payments are processed by Stripe. Recurring charges, where applicable, will renew automatically until canceled. You may cancel at any time from the Account page or via the Stripe customer portal. Donations are non-refundable except where required by law. ChessHarp is not a registered nonprofit; payments and donations are not tax-deductible.

6. Account Deletion and Data

You may delete your account at any time from the Account page. When you delete your account, we permanently remove your imported games, openings, drill history, and account record from our database. Some information may persist temporarily in backups or server logs (see the Privacy Policy for retention details).

7. No Warranty

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, or non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that imported data is complete or accurate.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ChessHarp and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid in the 12 months preceding the claim, or USD 50, whichever is greater.

9. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email or in-app notice. Continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, for any reason, including violation of these Terms. On termination, your right to use the Service ends immediately. Sections 7, 8, and 11 survive termination.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State in which the operator resides, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.

12. Contact
